The Opportunity

Council is seeking an experienced and motivated Coordinator Development Planning to lead the Development Planning team and coordinate the delivery of development assessment services across the organisation. 

About the Role

The Development Planning Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and leading Council’s development planning functions, including ensuring development applications are assessed efficiently, professionally and in accordance with relevant legislation, while fostering a positive and high-performing team culture.

Key responsibilities include: 

• Coordinating and leading all development planning functions of Council
• Undertaking statutory functions of the consent authority and ensuring assessment services comply with relevant legislation, regulations, guidelines and standards
• Providing high-level professional advice to management, staff, applicants and the community on development assessment matters
• Ensuring timely, consistent and customer-focused delivery of development planning services
• Leading, mentoring and supporting Council’s development planners
• Coordinating the assessment, determination and monitoring of development applications and subdivision certificates
• Driving continuous improvement initiatives to enhance assessment processes, systems and service delivery outcomes
• Building and maintaining positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Salary from $91,344 - $98,651 per year depending on skills, experience and qualifications (+ 12% super) - Grade 18 in accordance with Council's Salary System and the Local Government State Award.

What We’re Looking For

• Tertiary qualification in urban and regional planning 
• A minimum of 5 years demonstrated experience in NSW Planning
• Extensive experience in statutory planning and development assessment, preferably in local government
• Strong knowledge of NSW planning legislation and development assessment processes
• Proven leadership and people management skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to provide balanced and practical advice
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
• A commitment to customer service and continuous improvement
• Construction Induction Card (White card), or willingness to obtain
• A current Class C Driver Licence.
